Savva boarding school is home for approximately 180 children situated in a small village near the Tien Shan Mountains. The children of Savva boarding school live in family groups. Within these groups, the children act as one family with the caregivers often operating as surrogate parents. Children of different ages live together in order that the older children can help care for and teach the younger children. The director and his staff have been able to provide a good life and education for these children with the government funding that they receive. On their grounds, they have a dormitory, school building, cafeteria, gymnasium, and bathhouse. Children receive training in sewing, electrical work, computers, and English in order to provide a brighter future. Every holiday is marked by a performance in which the children perform songs and dances. Savva boarding school offers boxing lessons, which provides discipline and physical activity for many of their children. They also have several children that participate on traveling sports teams. Savva boarding school attempts to provide a broad range of activities that encourage expression and development as their children grow to be good citizens of Kazakstan.
